Find out how you can fight supermarket power

We want to let you know about War on Want's upcoming conference, Fight Supermarket Power, to be held on 27 February 2010.

http://www.waronwant.org/news/events/events/latest-events/16764-free-eve...

Supermarkets are growing in power, exploiting overseas workers to boost their profits. But across the world communities are fighting back. With inspiring speakers from Brazil, Sri Lanka and Palestine, Fight Supermarket Power is one event you won't want to miss.

To register for this free event, which will take place in central London following our AGM, email supermarkets@waronwant.org.

We are really excited to be able to bring together activists, trade unionists and experts from the UK and partner organisations around the world who are on the front line of the resistance to supermarket exploitation. Speakers include:

Alex Y. Kawakami - Landless Workers' Movement [MST] (Brazil)
Anton Marcus - Joint Secretary, Free Trade Zone & General Services Employees Union [FTZ-GSEU] (Sri Lanka)
Taysir Arabasi - Olive farmer & project director of Zaytoun (Palestine)
Professor Tim Lang - Professor of Food Policy, City University
Gay Brown - Tescopoly
Joanne Crouch - anti-Agrexco activist
Jack Dromey - Deputy General Secretary, Unite
John Hilary - Executive Director, War on Want

Join us to discuss and debate a number of issues, including local alternatives to supermarkets; the campaign against Israeli settlement produce; and the fight for the control of our food.

Fight Supermarket Power will take place at Faraday House, 48-51 Old Gloucester Street, London WC1N 3AE. (Nearest Tube: Holborn.)

RSVP today for this unique opportunity to share ideas on fighting back against supermarket power and the exploitation of workers.

We hope to see you there,

Ruth Tanner
